A little more than three months into the current administration in the Álvaro Obregón mayor’s office in CDMX, a strategy was launched to make services more efficient and recover public spaces, as well as to improve security and contribute to economic recovery and attention to victims of violence, explained Lía Limón García.
In an interview, Limón García recalled that when he took office, that mayor’s office was the fifth most insecure in the City, for which it was decided to implement a strategy to “shield the demarcation.”
He said that a good coordination of the local security cabinet with the National Guard, which already has a presence in the mayor’s office, and with the Secretariat of Citizen Security of the government of Mexico City, has already been established.
In this sense, he recalled what was stated by the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, in the sense that “the best armor is coordination and prevention” and, in the case of Álvaro Obregón, he affirmed that the first results such as the “white balance” in the patron saint festivities.
In addition, inter-municipal security operations were implemented, joining the efforts of the personnel and authorities of the Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Miguel Hidalgo and Coyoacán mayor’s offices.
In this vein, he explained that the good relationship between mayors (the members of the Union of Mayors of Mexico City, which brings together those who emerged from opposition parties to Morena) has already translated into concrete actions for the safety of the neighbors .
To this have been added specific work of the mayor’s office. As an example, he reported that the number of video surveillance cameras linked to the “Silver Base” of the mayor’s office doubled and 100 that did not have internet were reconnected. In addition, 980 new ones were installed in 60 neighborhoods.
He referred that, if the security statistics of the last quarter of 2020 are compared with those of the last quarter of 2021, it is observed that the crime rate decreased by 34%. This was possible thanks to a series of measures, such as the increase in the police force in the demarcation by 43%, which translated into more presence and deterrence of crime.
In addition, all police officers were trained in gender perspective, psychological support and human rights; The aim is to achieve greater closeness between the police and the community.
Rescue of public spaces
In public services, Lía Limón commented that she found the mayor’s office “in pieces”, with 30,000 unattended requests for attention and citizen demands that have been attended to.
Specifically, he said, more than 5,000 lights have been repaired or installed in 200 neighborhoods; repaired more than 3,200 potholes and rehabilitated more than 5.6 kilometers of streets; eliminated more than 200 clandestine garbage and rubble dumps and repaired more than 1,200 drinking water leaks. Nearly 3,000 trees were also trimmed.
In addition, maintenance work was carried out in 29 schools that urgently required rehabilitation.
The official commented that she is implementing a strategy to rescue public spaces, many of which had been closed for more than two years.
For this, the recovery, maintenance and cleaning of 19 parks, 15 gardens, 28 medians and 66 sports modules and 72 pocket parks has been carried out. Additionally, together with the private sector, the ecological park Jalalpa 2000 and Valentín Gómez Farías have been recovered.
They seek economic recovery with employment promotion
The mayor of Álvaro Obregón stressed that when she took office she was clear that one of the main challenges was the economic reactivation of that demarcation, where, she explained, the measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic caused the closure of 3,000 businesses, 30,000 unemployed people and 15,000 families living in poverty.
To overcome this situation, he indicated that two job fairs have already been held, in which more than 3,000 jobs were offered and a job bank was created with more than 700 places, all with salaries above the minimum wage and access to social security. . In addition, a job training program is being worked on.
These types of events will continue to take place, for which more companies from the demarcation will be invited.
Care for victims of violence against women begins
The official reported that the mayor’s office signed an agreement with the Origin Foundation for the operation of the “Allied Line”, in order to provide free psychological and legal telephone assistance, as well as support to women who experience situations of violence.
In addition, what will be “La Casa Aliada” was set up, where they will be offered comprehensive support and shelter.
In this sense, he mentioned that the end of violence against women passes through their economic and professional empowerment.
For this reason, progress is being made in the program for children’s stays, rehabilitating spaces where they will operate and which will begin to work in the first months of this year, together with the allied card.
In addition, work will be done on the training of women, so that they have a chance in the labor market.
Seeks to specify Cablebús and mine filling
The mayor explained that she will seek to attract federal resources for the filling of mines (60% of the land of the mayor’s office is mined), as well as the sanitation of dams and regulating vessels that exist in that demarcation. It will also seek to attract works from the CDMX government, such as the Cablebús project, at least for the San Antonio-Avenida Tamaulipas route, which the government of the capital promised.
