The United Nations Security Council adopted a press statement that the United States had distributed to member states, expressing its strong condemnation of the killing of fellow Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
The press release called for an immediate, comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation into the killing of Shireen Abu Aqleh. The statement also stressed the need to ensure accountability, and stressed the need to protect journalists in their capacity as civilians.
The Security Council stressed in its statement that it would continue to monitor the situation closely.
