The Senate Senate will act with serenity and good judgment in “plan B” of the Electoral reform: Monreal

The draft of reforms to the secondary legislation on electoral matters approved with exemption from procedures in the Chamber of Deputies will be analyzed responsibly and without pressure in the Chamber of Senators, reported Ricardo Monreal Avila.

The president of the Political Coordination Boarda (JCP) of the upper house and coordinator of the parliamentary group of the National Regeneration Movement Party (Morena) assured that he has not been pressured by anyone from the federal Executive branch to speed up the vote on the recently approved changes to six regulatory laws.

But even if there were pressures, he advanced, the Senate would not accept them.

“The Senate will act with serenity and good judgment. It’s a choice; It will be a rational, intelligent discussion. We are going to take care of the legal, ordinary procedure, there will be no run-over, fast track… No. We are going to do it very carefully and with great respect for our investiture and collegiate body.”

At a press conference, the senator from Zacatecas announced that “the greatest analysis, the greatest care in deliberation, and we are going to ensure that all parliamentary groups, all voices are heard and that we can, in due course, vote conscientiously on the content” of the minutes.

The 457 articles to be modified, he added, deserve to be analyzed by the senators in a broad, respectful, serious discussion, with good judgment and consideration.

That’s what we’re going to do. I have already spoken with some groups and with mine to be able to channel the discussion,” he said.

Finally, he said that, although he could try to build a majority of votes within the JCP to dispense with the procedures and immediately discuss the minutes in plenary, without referring to commissions for their opinion, he will not do so.
