Today, Tuesday, the Official Gazette of the Sultanate of Oman published the text of the new succession decree that determines the transfer of power from the ruler to the eldest son.
Yesterday, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said announced a constitutional amendment that includes the appointment of a crown prince for the first time and new rules regarding the mechanism of parliament’s work.
The most important of what was mentioned in Decree No. 6 of 2021, which issued a new Basic Law for the state, to establish a specific and stable mechanism for the transfer of the mandate of government in the Sultanate and to establish a mechanism for appointing the Crown Prince, clarifying his tasks and competencies, and emphasizing the principle of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary as a basis for governance in the state.
