Today, Wednesday, the Federal Commission of Integrity in Iraq announced the issuance of an aggravated prison sentence against a former director in the Iraqi Correctional Department, for causing prisoners to flee.
A statement by the commission stated, “The convict, who was the director of the Taji department in the Iraqi Correctional Department, caused, in conjunction with another accused that separated his case, three prisoners escaping from Al-Taji prison north of Baghdad, and his failure to report this crime until after a long period had passed, which facilitated The escape of prisoners and not being arrested. “
He added, “Al-Karkh Misdemeanor Court, which is competent to look into issues of integrity, after reviewing the evidence obtained in the case, represented by the statements of the legal representative of the Reform Department, and the administrative investigation that recommended referring him to the Integrity Commission, as well as the pledge signed by the accused that there is no shortage of inmates. In the oath and the presumption of his escape, I reached complete conviction of his negligence, so I sentenced him in absentia to severe imprisonment for a period of four years in accordance with the provisions of Article (272) of the Iraqi Penal Code.
He pointed out that “the verdict included issuing an arrest warrant and investigating the right of the convicted person, preventing him from traveling, and notifying the relevant authorities of that, while giving the right to the complaining party to claim compensation, based on the provisions of Article (19) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.”
And the commission’s statement continued, “Article (272) of the Penal Code stipulates that anyone who is charged with guarding an arrested, detained, arrested, imprisoned, escort or transporter who causes his negligence to escape one of them is punished with imprisonment or a fine.
