An adorable photo of two youngsters proudly watching their hero fathers inspire Adelaide to a shock win over Geelong in their AFL footy season opener on Saturday has a tragic twist.
An image of pint-sized Hugo Walker and Sonny Sloane from the sheds at Adelaide Oval has gone viral on social media, with more than 22,000 Facebook likes and 10,000 plus likes on Instagram.
The boys are the sons of Crows pair Taylor ‘Tex’ Walker and Rory Sloane, who both suffered heartbreak in 2018 when they and their respective partners, Ellie and Belinda, lost children after stillborn births.
‘We had always spoken about kids and it wasn’t really happening for us, so we got some medical advice and we had to go down the IVF route in the end,’ Belinda Sloane said in the recently released Making Their Mark AFL documentary.

‘We did that and fell pregnant with Leo, which was so amazing, so exciting. ‘But at 24 weeks, we lost Leo.’
Tragically, Taylor Walker and his partner Ellie suffered the same fate months later.
‘Adelaide has granted Taylor Walker personal leave following the loss of he and his partner Ellie’s unborn baby,’ a club statement at the time read.
‘The thoughts of the entire Crows family are with Taylor and Ellie, as well as their extended family, at this difficult time.’
The couple have since welcomed two boys into the world – Hugo James and Louis Jack.
On the field, Walker was dynamic on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval, guiding the Crows to a 12-point victory few anticipated.
Walker kicked five goals in a vintage display, leaving the Cats shell-shocked.
Geelong were grand-finalists in 2020, while Adelaide chalked up just three wins in a campaign to forget.
It was also the first time since 1971 a team who finished runners-up were beaten by the wooden spooners first up from the previous season.
