On Thursday, the Tunisian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a prominent Al-Qaeda leader.
In a statement, the ministry confirmed that the arrested is a “very dangerous classified terrorist who has been replaced by several inspection leaflets”, explaining that the talk is about one of the leaders of “Al Qaeda” in the country.
The ministry indicated that the detainee, whose name has not been revealed, had previously assumed leadership tasks within the organization in one of the flashpoints, and was linked to the elements of the “Uqba Bin Nafie Brigade” organization holed up by fleeing in the Tunisian mountains.
The ministry confirmed that the terrorist’s arrest was based on “confirmed informational information and high-precision technical and field follow-up.”
The ministry stated that during the operation, security forces confiscated a Kalashnikov rifle and live ammunition, in addition to uncovering and dismantling a cell of material and logistical support for the detainee and stopping its members.
