The UAE delegate to the United Nations, Lana Nusseibeh, said in a statement that “there is an urgent need to renew diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Libya.”
“The UAE is ready to work closely with all members of the Security Council, including the new US administration, to achieve a peaceful settlement for the Libyan people,” she added.
She added that her country “welcomes the Council’s call for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya,” which came in a joint statement Thursday, and stressed that “foreign interference in this conflict must stop now.”
And Lana Nusseibeh added in her statement that “the United Arab Emirates firmly believes that diplomatic and political solutions are the only way to end the Libyan conflict.”
It considered that “the most important priority is to maintain and strengthen the ceasefire agreement,” which has been in effect since it was signed by the two parties to the conflict in October.
