Agence France-Presse reported today, Wednesday, that the UN Security Council had failed to agree on a joint statement on Syria.
Yesterday, the Council held closed consultations on the political settlement of the Syrian crisis, the first of its kind for a long time.
The monthly Security Council session to discuss the Syrian file is usually open, but after the failure of the last meeting of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva at the end of January, it was decided to make the Security Council session closed.
The United Nations special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, called on the members of the UN Security Council to unify the position to break the deadlock controlling the Syrian file.
And he considered that there is a need to adopt constructive international diplomacy on Syria, and without that, the chances of real progress on the constitutional path remain few.
