Barcelona, Nov 17 (.) .- The United Kingdom has invested in Spain during the first six months of the year 895 million euros, 11% less compared to the first half of 2020, which places it as a third country investor in the State, behind the United States (2,008 million) and France (1,161 million).
These are data from the VII Barometer on climate and prospects for British investment in Spain, prepared by the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain and International Financial Analysts (Afi).
The first six months of the year have been conditioned “by the pandemic but already with the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom in force,” they recall from the British Chamber of Commerce.
During the first half of 2020, 1,004 million were invested, that is, 11% more than in the first half of 2021, but this does not mean that the investment “continues to be eminently productive, highly diversified and characterized by the scarcity of divestments.”
Madrid (494.9 million) and Andalusia (139.1 million) concentrate the majority of British investment, followed by a distance by Catalonia (67.1 million), a community that accumulates a direct British investment in this autonomy since 2014 of 2,553 , 5 million, 7.8% of the total investment received.
The energy sector, with 221 million; that of food, with 129.9 million; real estate, with 99.9 million; and that of construction, with 94.8 million; They have been the ones that have received the most British investment in Spain in the first half of the year.
Furthermore, only 6% of British businessmen consulted believe that the business environment is “bad” in Spain and quality of life, infrastructure and access to finance are, in this order, the aspects most valued by managers.
Likewise, 46% of British companies plan to increase their investment in Spain in 2021, a percentage that rises to 76% by 2022.
