The Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephanie Williams, welcomed the support of the President of the Presidency Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, for the holding of “national elections” next December.
Stephanie’s tribute came during her meeting with Al-Sarraj today, Saturday, in the Italian capital, Rome.
A statement by the Government of National Accord stated that “the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations welcomed the commitment shown by the President to harness all capabilities to enable the High Electoral Commission to complete the electoral elections on the date agreed upon in December 2021 in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations.”
Last November, Williams announced that the Libyan delegates meeting in Tunis, within the framework of negotiations sponsored by the United Nations, had reached an agreement providing for “the holding of national elections” on December 24, 2021.
