The United Nations expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the attempt to target the Saudi capital, Riyadh, last Saturday.
A spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, said in a statement: “We are aware of these reports that Saudi forces intercepted an air attack targeting the capital, Riyadh.”
He added, “We strongly condemn all attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, and we remind all parties of the need to comply with international humanitarian law, including taking steps to protect civilians.”
Dujarric stressed the need to “thoroughly investigate all possible violations of international humanitarian law, and hold those responsible accountable.”
Saudi media reported that the Arab coalition led by the Kingdom intercepted and destroyed a “hostile air target” launched by the Yemeni Houthi “Ansar Allah” movement towards Riyadh, last Saturday.
The movement denied carrying out at that time any operations against Saudi Arabia, hours after the Arab coalition led by the Kingdom announced the destruction of a “hostile air target” launched by the Houthis towards the capital, Riyadh.
