US air traffic controllers reported receiving an audio tape containing a threat to carry out a terrorist operation in Washington on Wednesday in retaliation for the assassination of the Iranian Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, a year ago.
“We will fly a plane to the Capitol on Wednesday. We will avenge Soleimani,” said the recording, published by “CBS” on Tuesday.
The network reported, citing sources, that the Pentagon and other security agencies had been briefed on this recording.
According to the American network, it has not been determined who sent the recording, and while the FBI believes that the warning of an attack is not serious, it is being investigated as a breach of aviation frequencies.
The office indicated that it “takes all threats of violence against public safety very seriously.”
The sources said that they believe that the threat is aimed at hitting the Capitol building on the same day that Congress is scheduled to approve the results of the presidential elections and the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in them.
According to experts, penetrating air frequencies is a cause for concern because it could affect the instructions pilots receive.
Other sources confirmed to CBS that a message had been sent to the air traffic controllers, that they should immediately report any threat or aircraft deviating from its flight path.
