Today, Tuesday, the United States announced imposing sanctions on 3 businessmen in Lebanon, which it said facilitated financial transactions for Hezbollah, and that their activities drained the country’s economic resources in light of its crushing crisis.

And the US Treasury said – in a statement – that it had included Adel Diab, Ali Mohammed Al-Dawn, Jihad Salem Al-Alam, and their company, “Dar Al Salam” for travel and tourism, in its sanctions list.

The ministry added that “through businessmen such as those mentioned today, Hezbollah obtains in-kind and financial support through the legitimate commercial sector in order to finance its terrorist acts and attempts to destabilize Lebanese political institutions,” according to the statement.

The US Treasury clarified that today’s decision requires imposing a ban on all the properties and businesses of the three businessmen located in the United States and informing the Ministry of it, as well as banning all transactions of Americans related to these properties.

The United States has targeted Hezbollah with a series of measures and sanctions against businessmen, politicians and entities affiliated with it, which the party sees as interference in Lebanese affairs, and accuses Washington of fomenting sedition in Lebanon.

The new US sanctions come after local media reported on Monday that the Lebanese cabinet will hold its first meeting in three months next week, after Hezbollah and the Amal movement ended their boycott of government meetings.

Hezbollah and the Amal movement were boycotting government sessions due to a dispute over the course of the investigation into the explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020.
