Under the above heading, Mariana Belinkaya and Elena Chernenko wrote in “Kommersant” about returning to negotiations on the “nuclear deal” with Iran.
The article stated: The United States declared its willingness to start negotiations with Iran and dropped the previous administration’s accusations of obstructing the “nuclear agreement.”
For its part, Tehran welcomed Washington’s move, with its assertion that it is not enough, and the Iranian Supreme Leader’s assertion, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that Tehran will not resume the protocol until after the lifting of US sanctions.
Russia also shared its vision for the course of negotiations with the participants in the Iran nuclear deal.
Kommersant diplomatic sources in Moscow say that the Russian plan has been communicated to the United States and the current participants in the agreement. Note that the document clearly states that Washington is the one who should take the first step.
So far, it is only clear that the US does not see an interest in speeding things up. Experts close to the new administration in the White House and the US Democratic Party note that Iran’s threat to temporarily suspend implementation of the additional protocol is no longer seen as disastrous. In Washington, they see the possibility of living for some time without this document, and there is no talk of urgent agreements. Rather, there are proposals to postpone the discussion of the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” until after the elections in Iran, when it is clear who will become president and who will have to deal with.
Meanwhile, all members of the international community are concerned about Iran’s upcoming suspension of the IAEA Additional Protocol.
According to Adlan Margiev, a researcher at the Center for International Studies at the Moscow State Institute for International Relations, “Iranian President Hassan Rouhani prefers not to enter into a dispute with the International Atomic Energy Agency and agree with the United States on procedures for returning all parties to the JCPOA.” The council, which was approved by the Supreme Leader, regarding the continuation of the development of the nuclear program, contrary to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which complicated the situation, noting that Iran, in all cases, needs to achieve the lifting of sanctions, since the economic situation in the country is extremely difficult. “To guarantees that they will not fall into the trap again, as happened after they signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2015, when it seemed easy to return the sanctions even if Iran fully complied with the agreement.”
