Pharmacies across the United States have begun vaccinating citizens after receiving one million vaccines sent by President Joe Biden’s administration, in a new indication of the acceleration of the vaccination campaign in the country.
On a cold day in Bethesda, on the outskirts of Washington, DC, groups of elderly people were constantly arriving to receive their first dose of Moderna vaccine at their local CVS pharmacy.
About 6,500 pharmacies and stores that sell medicines have begun vaccinating citizens with the first dose as part of a federal partnership, and the program is expected to expand to 50,000 sites.
This was seen as a way to reduce the burden on government health departments while making it easier to receive influenza vaccines in places such as CVS pharmacies and Right Aid Wall Greens.
After a random start, the vaccination campaign is accelerating in the United States, as 35.8 million people have so far received at least a first dose of the vaccine, accounting for 10 percent of the population.
