The United States government is considering granting more humanitarian permits for immigrants of other nationalities after those announced this week for Venezuelans, the foreign minister said this Friday morning. On Wednesday, both governments announced a plan that will give 24,000 Venezuelan migrants access to the United States by air, an agreement that civil organizations say is far from responding to the needs of the tens of thousands of their citizens stranded in Mexico.
“The fact that there are permits is a status of a humanitarian nature, now for Venezuelans, but they have already told us that they will consider other nationalities later,” Ebrard said at a press conference. “We see it as good, we see it as positive, and we think it’s worth supporting,” Ebrard added.
