Washington, Apr 13 (.).- The administrator of the US Development Agency (USAID), Samantha Power, assured this Thursday that the US government is working “to reduce the costs of doing business in Ukraine” and offered her support companies that decide to invest in the “future of democracy”.
In an act of the Association Forum between the US and Ukraine, held this Thursday in Washington, Power remarked that “any contribution to the Ukrainian economy right now is a contribution to winning the war”, although he acknowledged that “the risks of investing in of an invasion” increase the costs of doing business.
For this reason, Power affirmed that the US government is working in collaboration with the Ukrainian Executive, and other democracies and multilateral institutions, to “reduce the costs of doing business” in the country and, thus, “improve transparency, reduce opportunities for own-account negotiation and make the judiciary more independent.
The US official recalled that this week USAID signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Ukraine and the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to put companies that want to invest in contact with those seeking support.
DFC “will also provide investment support” through risk insurance, among other measures.
“We are in that early phase where an opportunity is promising but unknown and many fear it is too risky, but early adopters take the odds and push for reform,” Power urged.
The Usaid administrator pointed to the investments of companies such as Kingspan, Nestlé (SIX:) and Bayer (ETR:) in the region and called on the companies to join the “group of pioneers” that can promote “the future of Ukraine” and , therefore, to the “future of democracy”.
“Know that USAID and our partners around the world plan to offer you our full support,” he concluded.
