The US Department of Justice has indicted several charges related to data theft against Olesya Krasilova, a Russian citizen, and Arab citizens.
A statement by the ministry stated that the charges of “conspiracy to steal US government documents, theft of documents and conspiracy to launder money” were brought against Krasilova and the persons named Aws Mufak Abdul Jabbar and Haitham Issa Saadou Saad. Krasilova and Saad were also accused of electronic fraud and override.
The statement indicated that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services employed Saad in the Jordanian capital Amman during the period between 2007 and 2016, while Krasilova worked at the US embassy in Moscow.
Among their job assignments was to process data on asylum seekers in the United States under the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).

According to the statement, the three defendants conspired between February 2016 and April 2019 under the supervision and leadership of Abdul-Jabbar to steal data on hundreds of asylum applications, including sensitive personal data about asylum seekers and their family members.
The Ministry of Justice indicated that Arab citizens are currently detained, while Russian citizenship is still free.
The maximum prison sentence for the charges against the three persons ranges from 5 to 20 years.
It is worth noting that Olesia Krasilova was arrested in the Spanish Canary Islands in late February at the request of the United States, but the Spanish authorities released her at a later time, only to return to Russia in May.
The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the arrest of the citizen in Spain, considering her detention as evidence of the US “pursuit” of Russian citizens around the world.
