The US Department of Justice announced that it expects charges of “disobedience” and “conspiracy” to be brought against the backdrop of the storming of the Capitol building, Washington, DC, on the sixth of January.
A group of supporters of the current US President, Republican Donald Trump, stormed the Congress headquarters on the evening of January 6, during a session to approve the results of the presidential elections, in which the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, won, after a rally in which the current US president refused to recognize the victory of his opponent.
Police units and special forces were later able to clear the congressional building of the intruders for lawmakers to announce their approval of the results of the vote, and these unprecedented disturbances led to the killing of 5 people, including a police officer and a woman who was shot dead by a member of the security services and 3 people who died due to “accidents that required ambulance.” Soon, at least 68 others were arrested, while Trump pledged after these events to implement an organized process of transferring power.
