(Trends Wide) — The U.S. military is offering a bonus of up to $ 50,000, the largest amount yet, to some new recruits who enlist for six years in an effort to increase their ranks amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is an opportunity to attract people to consider the military,” Brigadier General John Cushing, deputy commander general of operations at the US Army Recruitment Command (USAREC), said in a statement. in English). “We’ve taken a look at the critical (military occupational specialties) that we need to cover to maintain the training bases, and that’s where we put a lot of emphasis.”
Incentives for new recruits range from $ 1,000 to $ 40,000 for certain jobs that the military needs to fill quickly or that are difficult to fill due to necessary qualifications, such as Special Forces or radar repairers, USAREC said. .
Aside from the bonuses depending on the race, there are “fast delivery” bonuses for those who are prepared to go to basic combat training within 90 days. These incentives range from US $ 2,000 to US $ 9,000, the earlier it is sent to an individual, the greater the dollar amount.
For example, USAREC says, enlisting for six years as a member of the air defense and anti-missile crew starts at $ 40,000 and also qualifies for a critical entry bonus of $ 9,000. If the new recruit decides to go to training within 90 days, the additional fast shipping bonus would push the new recruit to the maximum amount.
Previously, bonuses for new full-time recruits could not exceed $ 40,000.
