(Trends Wide Spanish) — The Guatemalan Migration Institute reported through a statement on Wednesday that a flight with 115 Guatemalans returned from Alexandria, Louisiana, has arrived in the country under Title 8, which regulates migration in the United States.
Of the 115 returnees, 111 are men and four are women.
In addition, it is highlighted that this is the first flight to arrive in the country after the completion of Title 42, a sanitary measure that allowed the immediate expulsion of certain undocumented migrants.
“The Guatemalan Institute of Migration guarantees dignified attention to the population that was returned and calls for the prevention of irregular migration,” the statement stated.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has repeatedly emphasized in recent months that immigrants detained under Title 8 authority may face expedited removal proceedings, known as “expedited removal.” , and a re-entry ban for at least five years.
Title 8 allows migrants seeking asylum to advance their cases through the immigration court system.
