The View Rebuts Obama, Cuban-American Criticisms of Democrats

The co-hosts of “The View” on Tuesday countered recent criticisms of the Democratic Party from former President Barack Obama and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, arguing that the party’s voters have been actively engaged while its elected officials are to blame for any shortcomings.

The discussion centered on recent remarks from Obama, who told Democrats at a fundraiser to “toughen up,” engage in “a little less navel-gazing,” and actively support candidates. Separately, Cuban asserted on a recent podcast that the party’s message that “Trump sucks” is an ineffective path to victory.

Whoopi Goldberg, a co-host of “The View,” argued that this criticism was misdirected. She contended that voters have been on the “front lines,” citing their participation in large-scale marches to protest threats to Social Security and immigration rights. “This has not been about Democrats laying back,” Goldberg stated, insisting that the blame lies with party leadership, not the electorate.

Co-host Sara Haines agreed, confirming that the critique was aimed at elected officials rather than “impassioned” voters.

Addressing Cuban’s point about the anti-Trump messaging, co-host Ana Navarro remarked, “Yeah, OK, so some of us say Donald Trump sucks. He does suck, and it feels good to say it!” Navarro also disputed Obama’s suggestion that Democrats are waiting for a “messiah,” implying that voters are already actively working.

Haines expanded on the critique of party leadership by pointing to a lack of concrete policy proposals, particularly on immigration. “It would be a ripe time for some elected Democrat to come forward with a secondary plan,” she said. “People want commonsense solutions and no Democrat is coming out and saying, ‘This a decades-old problem. It crosses all administrations, but here’s what I’m proposing.’ I’ve heard none of that.”
