The vision of the Government of Mexico on the war never ceases to amaze. Almost eight months into the conflict in Ukraine, and ambiguity has colonized the rhetoric of President López Obrador.
The poor preparation of the president when dealing with international issues is also surprising.
It happened on Monday during his press conference.
The reporter Stephanie Palacios questioned him about the space agreement negotiated between Russia and Mexico.
The president traveled nonstop to the midterm elections in the United States: “they are used for electoral purposes”; he called Manichaeans those who never tire of identifying the good and the bad in war; he recalled Mexico’s neutrality (despite the demands imposed by the UN Security Council); and asked that his peace plan, accompanied by Modi, Pope Francis and the UN, not be thrown on deaf ears.
The president does not explain why he is choosing India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, who is singled out by Muslims as a politician who discriminates against them.
AMLO’s hyperbolic approach during his interaction with the reporter led him to say that Mexico is “one of the most politicized peoples in the world, with less political illiteracy.”
The saddest thing about AMLO’s speech is when he referred disparagingly to the delivery of iodine pills in the face of a possible radiological emergency.
“(…) I have already seen that they are promoting, imagine, pills to resist nuclear radiation, even talking about the possibility of a third world war. Nerd. Also, knock on wood,” said the president.
Indeed, Poland has already handed out potassium iodide tablets to firefighters working near the Zaporizhia nuclear plant.
AMLO’s words reveal distancing from the state of war, but above all, indolence.
The best thing for AMLO is not to talk about the war: “(…) if one watches television in the world, the newspapers in the world, it is a bombardment of that type of information that stuns.”
The president continued with an idea that was not understood what he meant: “It is the agency I don’t know what, that has already taken the statement of one of the presidents or they have already bombed a bridge, or they have already sabotaged a gas pipeline or there has already been a declaration of that we are about to press or that someone presses the button”.
Reporter Stephanie Palacios found the origin of the controversial space agreement: “When information is requested from the dependencies, there is no information.” AMLO said that they do deliver information.
Ukraine is on Uranus. Apparently.
