Donald Trump, Georgia’s foreign minister, demanded to “find” enough votes to reverse his election defeat in an hour-long debate on the phone, the report claimed.
And according to the Washington Post, Trump rebuked the state’s Republican election chief Brad Ravensberger for raising legal questions related to the election.
Throughout the call, Ravensburger and his officials reportedly informed the outgoing president that Joe Biden’s victory with 11,779 votes in Georgia was fair and accurate.
Earlier, White House Counselor Peter Navarro called for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden to be postponed on January 20, even though the invitation conflicts with the constitution.
Navarro, who appeared on Fox News’ “Justice with Judge Jenin,” has suggested that Biden’s inauguration be delayed if Vice President Mike Pence orders an investigation into the November election results.
Referring to the election results, the White House adviser said, “I would not be surprised to see a special advisor on this matter. Vice President Pence, he has the authority to give a 10-day window to do what needs to be done.”
The newspaper said that Navarro appeared to refer to the Wednesday joint session chaired by Pence, which is expected to see Biden win, despite opposition from some members of the Senate from the Republican Party.
Under the constitution, the term of office of the new president and vice president must begin on January 20 and it is not clear how the handover could be delayed.
However, President Donald Trump shared a tweet about Navarro’s allegations.
In a separate tweet, the US leader baselessly accused the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of exaggerating the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and resulting deaths in the US as the death toll in the country exceeded 350,000.
