The White House announced the cancellation of the annual Easter egg rolling event for the second year in a row due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The office of the US First Lady, Jill Biden, said on Friday that the White House intends to celebrate the holiday by sending Memorial Easter eggs for the year 2021 in the coming days to Corona virus vaccination sites and local hospitals.
Former US President Rutherford Richard Hayes began this tradition in 1878.
On several other occasions the event was moved outside the White House grounds or was canceled.
During World War I, President Woodrow Wilson suspended effectiveness, and President Franklin Roosevelt did the same during World War II.
President Harry Truman abolished the tradition of rolling Easter eggs completely from 1948 to 1952, due to food rationing and renovations in the White House.
President Dwight Eisenhower revived the tradition again in 1953.
