Kerkove noted that the World Health Organization continues to monitor the situation closely, and to work with experts around the world who are studying mutations.
“Mutations will continue. Mutations are a natural process. This does not particularly affect the virus itself, but we need to continue studying these options, including from the standpoint of the possibility of transmission,” the international expert said in this regard.
The epidemiologist at the World Health Organization revealed that the international organization has its groups of specialists who study new types of Corona virus, adding that she indicated that “the results of their work will be received in the coming days and weeks.”
Earlier, the Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that the organization is working with scientists around the world to understand how the Corona virus mutated, noting in the same context the importance of promoting progress in the field of genome sequencing to detect new types of Corona virus.
It is noteworthy that the British Minister of Health, Matt Hancock, had announced on December 23 that the second mutation of the Corona virus that had been identified in the country was an invasive one and most likely it had come to Britain from South Africa.
