At this point, there is no new chapter in the relationship between the Philadelphia Sixers and Ben Simmons that changes the organization’s plans. Despite the current conflict that the team lives with the parallel management that the player is taking of his mental and physical state, patience will continue to be the modus operandi of the organization. Daryl Morey already said that they would wait “four years if necessary.” In this regard, reveals Sam Amick and The Athletic that the Sixers run a 30-man roster they’d be willing to trade Ben Simmons for.
This figure could clash with the ambition that Morey has shown in each of the negotiations that have involved his player in recent months. However, thirty players are not that many and surely among those names there are impossible goals to achieve. The same Amick clarifies that of the complete list, the Sixers estimate that “between five and ten players will be available in the next year or two” signs the article. This, together with the leaks referred to by the journalist, again point to the long term regarding the Australian’s departure.
The truth is that such an approach makes sense considering that Ben Simmons’ market price cannot fall any more than it has. And it is hard to think about what would make a major disaster possible. But if it is more possible that other important players in the league lower their value or their franchises are squeezed by the urgency of looking for a way out. We have recently seen how these episodes have changed the idiosyncrasy of the league in the blink of an eye, and the Sixers prefer to keep waiting for that window of opportunity to open.
