Quintana Roo became the 11th state in Mexico to decriminalize abortion on Wednesday.
With 19 votes in favor, three against and four abstentions, the Quintana Roo congress approved the reform of several articles of the state criminal code and the repeal of another to authorize the legal interruption of pregnancy before 12 weeks of gestation.
Quintana Roo thus joins 10 states, including Mexico City, where abortion decriminalized in recent years.
