From January to December 10, at least 26,670 people have lost their lives due to Covid-19 in our country, a reduction of 82.4% compared to the deaths registered in the same period, but from 2021, when 152,142 were registered. cases.
According to data from the federal Ministry of Health, since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in Mexico (from March 2020 to December 10, 2022), a total of 330,695 people have died from this disease in the country.
And although the vast majority of these deaths (91%) were registered between 2020 and 2021, so far in 2022, and with a vaccination campaign already underway, deaths from Covid-19 continue to occur.
The months of January (9,914); February (9,876); July (2,270); March (1,643) and August (1,455), are placed as the deadliest months of 2022, which, in total, register 25,158 cases.
While last year, only in January 39,156 deaths were already registered, a figure greater than the total number of deaths registered in the almost 12 months that have elapsed this year.
Cases by state
Like last year, Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Jalisco are the entities with the highest number of deaths registered at the national level with 2,916, 2,498 and 2,101 cases, respectively.
However, these entities register a drop of 85%, 88% and 80%, each, in fatal cases from the coronavirus, compared to the deaths registered in 2021.
Also, currently, these entities, in addition to Nuevo León (1,540); Guanajuato (1,473); Chihuahua (1,249); Baja California (1,222); Veracruz (1,184); Coahuila (1,076) and Tamaulipas (1,070), concentrate 61% of the deaths registered throughout the country.
In 2021, the top 10 entities with the highest number of deaths were:
Edomex (21,378); Mexico City (19,732); Jalisco (10,866); as well as Puebla (9,050); Veracruz (8,503); Guanajuato (7,301); Nuevo Leon (7,246); Michoacan (5,267); Sinaloa (4,403) and Hidalgo (4,290), which accounted for 64.4% of the deaths.
Comorbidities
The records of the federal Ministry of Health indicate that of the accumulated deaths from Covid-19, 61.5% have been in men and 38.4% in women.
Of the 330,695 deaths from this disease, 95.7% occurred in a hospital, according to the federal agency.
Meanwhile, the age range of most deaths was between 50 and 79 years.
The figures also indicate that 44% of the victims of Covid-19 suffered from hypertension; 36.6% diabetes; 20.5% obesity and 7.4% smoking.
