(CNN) — Actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, perhaps best known for their portrayals of swordsman and warrior of the sea, respectively, are currently starring in a controversial libel trial in Virginia.
Depp is suing Heard, his ex-wife, for $50 million, alleging that she defamed him with a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which he wrote about his experience with domestic violence.
Depp was not named in Heard’s article, but said he lost job opportunities as a result of its publication.
In this week’s testimony, Depp’s attorney asked him about some of the film franchises he has starred in beyond his work as Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies.
“Okay, um, ‘Alice in Wonderland’? I’m so pathetic when it comes to what movies I’ve done. I’m sorry,” Depp said on the stand Monday. “I don’t see them. I feel better not seeing them. I can’t…what was the question?”
So, here’s a reminder for Depp of some of his most memorable roles, along with highlights from some of Heard’s.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street”
It wasn’t a breakout role, but a 21-year-old Depp played Glen in the 1984 horror movie that became a classic. His character, of course, was killed off in the movie.
“21 Jump Street”
Depp was more successful on the small screen.
Depp played Thomas “Tom” Hanson in the series about a group of police officers whose boyish looks allow them to work undercover as teenagers. It aired on Fox from 1987 to 1991.
Heard also gained attention in Hollywood playing a teenager.
Heard starred as Greta Matthews on the CW network’s teen drama set in Palm Springs, California, which aired in 2007.
“The Playboy Club”
Another short-lived series starring Heard was the 2011 NBC drama “The Playboy Club.”
Set in the 1960s, the series focused on a group of “Bunnies” who worked at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Club in Chicago.
Heard played the naïve Maureen, who was adjusting to living and working in the big city.
“The Rum Diary”
That same year “The Rum Diary” was released in theaters.
Depp and Heard met on the set of the 2009 film based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name.
When Heard and Depp crossed paths, he was already a true movie star.
His role as a humanoid with scissors for hands was a hit in 1991 (the film was released in December 1990) and brought Depp recognition, including a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a musical or comedy.
“Alice in Wonderland”
Depp met with “Edward Scissorhands” director Tim Burton for the 2010 film “Alice in Wonderland.”
He played Tarrant Hightopp, the “Mad Hatter.”
Heard played the love interest of Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry/Aquaman character in the 2018 DC superhero movie.
Heard played Mera, a warrior princess, and will return in the film’s sequel, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” which will be released in 2023.
