They arrest “El Gafe”, alleged operator of the shooting in Plaza Andares de Zapopan, Jalisco

As the Undersecretary of Security, Ricardo Mejía, announced this morning, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) reported the arrest of César Augusto González Wezel alias “El Gafe”, as well as his bodyguard Juan Carlos “Carlitos”. The first would presumably be the author of the shooting on October 2 in Plaza Andares de Zapopan, Jalisco.

The Secretary of National Defense indicated that on October 11, in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Guadalajara, joint operations were carried out with elements of the National Guard and the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), where César Augusto González, alleged plaza boss of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in the municipalities of Zapopan, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga and El Salto; as well as Juan Carlos “N”.

“It was identified that César Augusto “N” is related to the violent events that occurred in the vicinity of the “Andares” and “Landmark” shopping malls in Zapopan, due to the attempted kidnapping of a businessman; generating an aggression against Army and National Guard personnel who were on a tour of the commercial area; a situation that caused tension and panic in the citizens who were in nearby commercial premises and traveling near the scene of the events, where an escort and people were injured, “said the Sedena.

He added that thanks to intelligence work he had information about the location of “El Gafe” in a building in the Chapultepec Country neighborhood of Guadalajara, where when the Army elements arrived they provided peripheral security, while the agents of the public ministry of the federation attached to the FGR completed a search, and achieved the arrest in flagrante delicto of the criminal leader, as well as the securing of various narcotic packages, various firearms, chargers and cartridges of various calibers for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces, among them fragmentation grenades and a vehicle.

In a second search in the Primavera neighborhood of Zapopan, federal elements arrested Juan Carlos “N”, who was seized with narcotics, a handgun, chargers and cartridges for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces and an armored vehicle.

“César Augusto “N” is the alleged leader of an extremely violent shock group, in charge of the expansion of the criminal organization responsible for the recruitment of individuals to carry out illegal activities and the elimination of antagonistic criminal groups, related to various criminal acts such as burning of vehicles and commercial premises during an attack perpetrated against military personnel; while Juan Carlos “N”, it is presumed that he participated in the kidnappings, homicides and clandestine burials perpetrated in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, “explained the agency.
