They ask to invalidate “Plan B” of electoral reform

With a full Zócalo in the capital, and with the harangues of “my vote is not touched” and “the law is the law”, thousands of citizens, both in Mexico City and in various cities of the country, demanded this Sunday that the ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) invalidate the so-called electoral “Plan B” as it considers it to be an attack on the autonomy of the National Electoral Institute (INE), cancels free elections and violates the political rights of citizens,

Cossío recalled that various lawsuits have already been filed before the Court against the reforms of “Plan B” to the General Law of Social Communication and the General Law of Administrative Responsibilities.

He stressed that they will also present themselves against the modifications to the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures, the General Law of Political Parties and the Organic Law of the Judiciary of the Federation, as well as the issuance of a new General Law of the Means of Challenge in Electoral Matters. .

“I do not see how the ministers could declare the constitutionality of the legal reforms.”

Faced with the accusations of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador against those who have filed these lawsuits, José Ramón Cossío clarified that “there is nothing extraordinary in this, there is no conspiracy, it is the right of citizens contained in the Constitution.”

“Surely it is in the face of this possibility that criticism of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation has increased for days. The president and his collaborators have insulted its members in the face of the possibility that they declare their electoral reforms totally or partially invalid,” said the retired minister before citizens of all social strata, entire families, young people, the elderly or people with disabilities, girls and boys, activists, and even members of opposition parties who took up positions in the Zócalo and surrounding streets to demand respect for the current electoral laws.

“The president has said that the corruption of the ministers will be evidenced if they invalidate his reforms, on the contrary, the ministers could only be considered corrupt if they ignore the provisions of the constitutional articles that regulate the electoral bodies and procedures in detail,” Cossio said. .

“The president has said that ministers will be hypocritical if they declare his legal reforms invalid; ministers will be hypocritical if they hide their arguments, deviate from their precedents or distort the votes in which they participate.

“The president has said that if they declare the reforms unconstitutional, they will be allies of the most privileged of our population, and this is not the case. The ministers could be held as defenders of privileges only if they weaken the electoral institutions so that the powers facts, organized crime included, can determine the course of the elections and the conformation of our popular representatives”.

“In the coming weeks, the ladies and gentlemen ministers will have the opportunity to show themselves, and to show us, whether or not the presidential descriptions are well founded. I am confident that all of them will show that the expressions of the president and his collaborators are not true.

“I am sure that the ministers will consider that the irregularities of the legislative processes have a serious invalidating potential; I know that the ministers will declare that the electoral norms that reduce the human and budgetary resources of the electoral bodies violate the principles of equity and certainty, I am sure that the ministers will consider that the setting of the budgets by the Chamber of Deputies violates the budgetary autonomy of the INE.

“I do not see how the ministers could declare the constitutionality of the legal reforms that have so regrettably diminished the political rights of women,” she said.
