(Trends Wide) — The Orange County coroner confirmed Tuesday that the body found in a wooded area near the Tymber Skan on the Lake apartment complex in Orlando is Miya Marcano, the 19-year-old who disappeared last month.
“A positive identification of a woman whose body was recovered in a wooded area on October 2, 2021 has been identified as Miya Marcano,” said Dr. Joshua Stephany, chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola counties, on Tuesday. a statement.
“This case is currently under active police investigation and any additional requests for information, including the cause and manner of death, will be forwarded to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday it believed the body was Marcano’s, but forwarded the official identification to the medical examiner’s office.
Marcano had been missing since Sept. 24, when she was last seen at Arden Villas Luxury Apartments in Orlando, where she lived and worked, according to the sheriff’s office.
Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s emergency response team found the body around 10:45 a.m. this Saturday, Mina said, as they searched a wooded area near the Tymber Skan on Lake condos, about 17 miles away. west of your home. A bag with Marcano’s identification was near the body, he said.
A man, designated as a “person of interest” in the case
Cellular records indicated that Armando Manuel Caballero, a person of interest in the case, was “in or near” the apartments for about 20 minutes between 8:00 PM. and 9:00 PM. the night Marcano was reported missing, according to the sheriff.
Mina said authorities were not “looking for other people,” adding that investigators believe Caballero was “responsible for this crime.”
Caballero used to live in the Tymber Skan apartments, Mina said on Saturday.
Marcano was last seen around 5 p.m. on Friday, September 24, according to the sheriff’s office. He had a flight scheduled for that night, but he never got on the plane.
Authorities believe Caballero, a maintenance worker in the Arden Villas apartments, had accessed the Marcano apartments without his permission, Mina previously said. An arrest warrant had been issued for Caballero for theft.
During the initial investigation, Caballero told detectives that he had last seen Marcano around 3:00 PM. that day while working, Mina said.
Caballero had shown a romantic interest in Marcano, Mina said, but was repeatedly rejected.
