Line 12 of the Mexico City Metro will operate again in the last quarter of the year, informed Jesús Esteva Medina, secretary of Works and Services of the capital government.
“We calculate that in the last third of this year we will already be doing it. We are working with all the teams so that this year it is in operation”.
At a press conference, the official announced that at the end of next February the rehabilitation work will begin on the elevated section of the so-called Golden Line that collapsed on the night of May 3, 2021, causing the death of 26 people and more than a hundred wounded.
The executive project for the reconstruction of Ground Zero is already complete, he assured, referring to the section of approximately 486 meters, located between Los Olivos and Tezonco stations, which was the one that collapsed causing the tragedy.
Reporting on the progress of the rehabilitation work on Line 12, Esteva Medina commented that next week the executive project will be delivered to the construction company Cicsa, and that the authorities of the Mexico City government are already in coordination with the company personnel for the establishment and execution of the corresponding work program.
The first metal beams will arrive at the site in five weeks, he added, and regarding the reinforcement of the columns of Line 12, he said that the progress is 26.7%; Of the 152 columns to be reinforced, 66 have already been intervened with crack injection and 30 with carbon fibers.
He also specified that all the cracks found in the elevated section will be intervened to guarantee the safety of the Gold Line when it returns to normal operation.
“We have information that they can be repaired (the cracks), they can be fixed. These cracks are due to induced distortion fatigue; that is, a crack that forms at the bottom”, he detailed.
