With the rush to finish the construction of the Mayan Train in July 2023, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that the military engineers who will build sections 5 north, 6 and 7 will arrive in the area after March 21 to organize in ten work fronts to seek further progress.
In addition, private construction companies will be insisted on speeding up their work.
In all cases, the first technical work has already begun by personnel from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) and as the first result of these tasks, the recent request for 241 hectares was announced, which will be expropriated in a concerted manner. .
Said action will pave the construction works to the military. The declaration of cause of public utility of privately owned land, published last Monday in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), specified that on January 8 “the Secretary of National Defense requested the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial Development and Urbano that, within the scope of its functions, powers and in terms of the current applicable provisions, carry out the actions that are necessary for the acquisition of those properties that are required for the execution of Section 5 north and are made available of Sedena”.
The legal argument for the petition is the collaboration agreement signed on May 21 of last year between Sedena, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) and the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur).
Among the commitments of the fund are: being in charge of obtaining the rights of way for the 590.8 km of the Mayan Train that will be built by military engineers, in addition to the environmental impact statement, the authorization for the change of land use and resolve social conflicts that arise, among other activities.
Section 5 north (49.8 km) runs from Cancún to Playa del Carmen, section six (254 km) from Tulum to Bacalar and section seven (287 km) from Bacalar to Escárcega.
Private must speed up
In his morning conference, the President said that the construction companies of the first four sections and the 5 south are committed to completing the works in the required time, but a greater advance will be suggested.
“We want to exercise more (budget), have more physical advancement and more financial advancement. We are talking to the companies, there are companies that must invoice up to 1,000 million pesos per month and they are not advancing in the same way, but we already have a plan,” he added.
The firms he referred to are: Mota-Engil, Carso, INDI, ICA and Grupo (in section 5 south).
The other part of the 1,500 km circuit will be in the hands of military engineers, who once the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is finished, will arrive in the Mexican southeast.
