They prepare export of food from Jalisco to Florida

Guadalajara, Jalisco. The agro-producers and agro-industrialists of Jalisco are getting ready to send next December, a first shipment of food to the East Coast of the United States to reinforce bilateral trade with the American Union but eliminating coyote and intermediaryism in the agri-food sector.

The foregoing, after the Jalisco Agrifood Council (CAJ) signed strategic agreements with the World Trade Center (WTC) in Tampa, Florida, with the BrotSons supermarket chain and with the Orlando International Chamber of Commerce, in addition to mediation of the Mexican Consulate in Orlando.

According to the president of the CAJ, Roberto de Alba Macías, due to intermediarism, agroproducers receive only 20% of the price at which their products are sold to the final consumer.

“The one who earns the most is the coyote who takes 50% of the profit,” said the CAJ leader.

For his part, the president of the Chamber of the Food Industry of Jalisco (CIAJ), Antonio Lancaster Jones, said that “on average, it is 300 or 350% that increases the price from the producer to the final consumer, which is the utility that the intermediaries take”.

The Consul of Mexico in Orlando, Florida, Juan Sabines, said that this first mechanism of commercial exchange could be replicated in other diplomatic headquarters of the United States.

“The idea is that both sides win; the idea is to place products from Jalisco in the Florida market,” said Sabines.

To support small Jalisco producers, through B2B rooms farmers, ranchers, businessmen, agribusinesses and agricultural entrepreneurs in Jalisco will be able to interact with potential buyers for the export of their crops, products and by-products “and have the certainty and confidence of being being accompanied by the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country”, pointed out the president of the CAJ.
