(CNN) — More than 40 years after the death of the legendary artist, a Bob Marley biopic is coming to the big screen, for which a trailer has just been released.
Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as the reggae legend and Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita Marley, “Bob Marley: One Love” explores the blossoming success of Jamaican songwriter legend Marley alongside The Wailers in a musical feature film whose premiere is scheduled for January 2024.
The trailer, released on Thursday, also addresses the aftermath of Marley’s surviving an assassination attempt in 1976, believed to be politically motivated, and his subsequent return to the spotlight to headline the now-famous “One Day” peace concert. Love” in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica.

Marley was only 36 years old when he died of a rare form of cancer in 1981.
It is not the first time that Ben-Adir has played an icon: the actor already played the influential civil rights activist Malcolm X in Regina King’s “A Night in Miami.”
Now this film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, features numerous contributions from the Marley estate. The late singer’s son Ziggy, his daughter Cedella and his wife Rita are producers on the film, along with Brad Pitt, Robert Teitel, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner.
