Ricardo Monreal Ávila reported that he privately informed Adán Augusto López Hernández, Secretary of the Interior, that the reforms that are of interest to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, among others the electoral one currently being analyzed by the Chamber of Deputies, will be reviewed in a timely manner in the Chamber of Senators.
In the meeting that he held behind closed doors with the official in the Upper House to review the pending legislative agenda, assured the president of the Political Coordination Board (JCP), he made it clear to Adán that the senators will exhaustively review the minutes that he approves the House of Representatives and forwarded to them.
He guaranteed that the electoral reform, if approved, will not be through the application of the legislative majority, represented by Morena and his allies from the PVEM, PT and PES, but in consensus with the opposition parliamentary groups.
“What I assure you is that it will not be imposed by the majority and we are going to try to build qualified majorities or unanimities, so that there is no difficulty in interpreting the constitutional norm. You should not worry, I guarantee it, because we are going to do things right in terms of electoral reform.”
To a specific question, in a press conference he replied that the meeting with Adam was kind, friendly and respectful; “We reviewed the agenda of the Legislative branch and the interest they have in some matters, which obviously we will analyze carefully and with autonomy.
“But there is a respectful relationship with him, I would even say friendship, and today we talked about various things. One of the issues is the electoral reform, and obviously I made him see our position that once it concludes there, in the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate will carry out a thorough, serious study, a study and a punctual review of what, in the Chamber of Deputies, as the chamber of origin, is approved”, he stated.
They also spoke “about some of the initiatives that are pending, the minutes that are pending and we offered to review them so that, once approved by the Political Coordination Board with the parliamentary groups (of all political parties), we can promote them,” he added. .
The federal Executive is interested in the current regular session, which will end on December 15, he explained, the senators vote on the “series of minutes that are already in the commissions” ruling, so it will try to talk to the coordinators of all the parliamentary groups represented in the Senate “to promote them”.
