The “plan b” of the electoral reform will scare away investments in Mexico, affirmed the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), due to the secondary laws they will cause political uncertainty and with it, a very adverse effect on the economy.
Coparmex warned that it will fight and go before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), even, at international instances, to dispute these reforms of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador .
The sector headed by José Medina Mora strongly condemned the dismantling of electoral institutions, as it maintained that Mexico runs the risk of returning to an authoritarian regime.
“The fragile confidence in our country is even more vulnerable with these legal modifications that could scare away investments, become an economic brake and aggravate the inflation that hits the pocket of families,” he warned.
The employers’ body affirmed that the modifications to the secondary laws approved in the Senate on electoral matters open the door to state elections and put the 2024 election at risk.
These modifications —he reproached— compromise electoral competition and our right to have peaceful, transparent electoral processes, with reliable results that keep us away from post-electoral conflicts.
come regression
In this sense, Coparmex announced that they will expose the deputies and senators who betrayed the trust of the people by approving this “plan b” that puts the organization of the elections in Mexico at risk.
“We will make visible who were the legislators who were on the side of the citizens and who betrayed that trust, this as a legitimate exercise of accountability,” he asserted.
Coparmex stressed that the modifications contained in President López Obrador’s “plan b” represent a regression for democracy in our country and are an affront to citizens who for more than 30 years have struggled to build solid institutions that give certainty to the processes to choose our representatives.
He regretted that with the resolution adopted by the senators from Morena and allies, young people inherit a country that favors the concentration of power, impunity for those who do not want clean and fair elections, abuses in the campaigns; in short, a less democratic country.
