Tom Thibodeau is a man of habit. His way of training, his system, his goals on the parquet… For him, changes are almost always the consequence of an obligation. So, when he’s more than halfway through the regular season, how does Cam Reddish fit into his scheme?
It seems not very well. The newcomer to the New York organization via transfer is barely playing. On Sunday against the Clippers he played five minutes; last night against the Cavaliers, nil. Naturally, the Knicks coach has been asked about the situation of the young player, for whom the organization has given a protected 2022 first round.
“The only thing I try is to try to establish a routine. When we played well, we practically had a nine-man rotation. When I have the opportunity to put it in, I want to do it. He is working very well in training. You never know in this league, you can have an injury and the next second you’re there,” he told Marc Berman of New York Post.
In a way, Thibs’s words are surprising. Beyond his little or a lot of flexibility, Reddish is a player who has come to help and who has an interesting future ahead of him. This season, until he joined the Knicks, he was averaging 11.9 points and 2.5 rebounds with 37.9% shooting from three-point range. It seems clear that he could help a team that is going through difficulties this course.
