Thousands in disbelief after a mum shares her real age online

An American mother has surprised her followers by sharing her age in a TikTok video about how to ‘successfully grow older’.

Kelly Lavallie, who has 250,000 followers on the social media app, shared a video about how she is ageing gracefully by listening to what her teenage children tell her is ‘cool’ to wear and what misses the mark.

But many fans of the video’s message were surprised to learn that the blonde-haired Kelly, who is curling her hair using a tong in the video, is 51 years old.

‘Thought you were 30,’ wrote one commenter, with another adding: ‘YOU’RE 51?!’

‘My number one tip for successful aging… I mean I’m halfway right, I’m 51, but so far what I would say is… it’s not Botox,’ she explained at the beginning of the footage.

‘Obviously Botox is fabulous, but one, don’t get stuck in a fashion era, don’t get stuck with a haircut that looked good on you 30 years ago.’

Instead the successful mum recommends growing and learning to adapt your fashion and style as the years progress, so you maintain a sense of youth.

‘We’ve all seen the old broads, hundred years old rocking some up-to-date fashion, that is who we want to be,’ she said.

Despite acknowledging that children can be harsh in their delivery of information, Kelly would prefer that than just being told she looked fabulous when she didn’t.

‘I know they’re mean, but they’re usually right and I think this applies on the inside as well, don’t get stuck in the way you view yourself or what you think you can do,’ she said.

‘The other is… don’t give up, don’t decide to be an old f**ker and that’s not a number, you can be that when you’re like 40.’
