(Trends Wide) — Three Kansas City, Missouri, police officers are hospitalized after being shot while executing a search warrant at a residence Tuesday night, according to Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves.
During a press briefing from outside the hospital early Wednesday morning, Graves said tactical response team officers were attempting to execute the order just after 9.30pm. When officers identified themselves and tried to enter, they were met with gunfire, Graves said.
Officers were able to return fire at the gunman, but it is unclear if the individual was injured.
The three injured officers were taken by their own means to hospital, where their injuries are said to be not life-threatening. Graves said officers were alert and speaking from their hospital beds.
Police and the suspect remain at odds.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas tweeted that he is praying for the three injured officers. “We’ve been reminded too much lately in Kansas City how dangerous police work can be,” Lucas said.
