Tiger Woods announced Saturday that he underwent lumbar disk replacement surgery the previous day to address persistent pain and mobility issues in his lower back.
In a statement on social media, Woods explained that after consulting with doctors, scans revealed a collapsed disc at the L4/L5 level, disc fragments, and a compromised spinal canal.
“I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back,” he added.
This procedure is the latest in a series of back operations for Woods, who underwent surgery in September of last year to address a nerve impingement. The surgery comes while Woods was already sidelined from the PGA Tour, recovering from a ruptured left Achilles tendon he sustained in March.
