Today, Wednesday, the Armenian capital is witnessing tight security measures, amid continuing protests calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, while a number of members of Parliament held a sit-in, raising the same demand.
The protest march organizers announced their readiness to open the entrances to the Armenian Parliament building, in front of which a number of protesting parliamentarians sit in front of it, in the event that the Prime Minister arrives there and announces his resignation and conducts early parliamentary elections.
Earlier, the demonstrators blocked the entrances to Parliament and set up tents and declared their adherence to Pashinyan’s resignation demand.
The Armenian Prime Minister announced last week that he was ready to hold early parliamentary elections this year, and announced his intention to meet with the heads of opposition parties to discuss this issue.
In addition, the Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan announced, today, Wednesday, that the Chief of Staff, Onik Gasparyan, will be dismissed automatically on March 10, as the Armenian President, Armen Sargsyan, did not sign the draft decree to exempt the Chief of Staff, and at the same time did not appeal the decision to dismiss him Constitutional Court.
The Chief of Staff, General Gasparyan, had also called, earlier, for the resignation of Pashinyan, which made the latter issue an order to dismiss him, but the implementation of this order needs the approval of the President of the Republic, Armin Sargsyan.
