(Trends Wide) — Tom Holland may play a great superhero, but it seems like his co-star Zendaya is doing all the heavy lifting.
During an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” this week, the two “Spider-Man: No Way Home” actors told a story about how they have had to adjust to their height difference when doing stunts, specifically for a scene in the one in which Spider-Man, the role played by Holland, is supposed to hold MJ (Zendaya) and swing her onto a bridge. Spider-Man was supposed to gently rest MJ on the bridge and then walk away, Zendaya explained on the show.
For the uninitiated, Zendaya is a few inches taller than Holland. And as a result, things were a bit different than planned.
“Because of our height difference, if we’re at the same point – we were tied down – I’d land before him. Obviously my feet would hit the ground before him,” he said.
Holland chimed in: “And I’m the superhero. I’m supposed to look cool,” she said, as Zendaya laughed. “And she would land … and my feet would swing under me and then she would catch me.”
The end result, as the two graciously demonstrated on the show, makes Zendaya look more like the superhero than Holland, holding her leg as the two land.
“You were actually very charming,” Zendaya pointed out, speaking of Holland. “You were like ‘Oh my gosh, thank you.’
Hilarious stunts aside, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which hits theaters on December 17, has already been a hit. Tickets for the movie overwhelmed websites on Monday, with fans complaining that ticketing sites like AMC were overloaded.
As more films return to theaters, which continue to face challenges during the covid-19 pandemic, the hype surrounding such a popular superhero could help theaters end the year on a high note.
