
The World Health Organization said, in a statement today, that in light of the continuation of the Corona pandemic, the 68th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean will be held electronically for the second year in a row, and health ministers and high-level representatives from the countries of the 22 WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region will communicate online. , along with partner organizations and civil society, to discuss priority public health issues, from 11 to 14 October 2021
The opening session will deliver statements from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, and Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population of Egypt and Chair of the sixty-seventh session of the Regional Committee.
Tomorrow, members of the 68th session of the Regional Committee will hold a technical meeting before the opening session to review two strategies: the Global Digital Health Strategy 2020-2024: Framework for Action in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and the Strategy for Promoting the Health of Refugees and Migrants in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
The meeting concludes with a panel discussion entitled: “Health for Peace – From Theory to Action”, which will address ways in which health can be promoted as a bridge to peace.
