‘Whatever he’s been smoking it needs to stop… it’s absolutely insane’: Tony Bellew rips into Deontay Wilder over his ‘impossible’ claims about Tyson Fury cheating during their previous fights and ex-trainer Mark Breland spiking his water
- On Saturday, Deontay Wilder took to social media to hit out at Tyson Fury again
- Wilder claimed that Fury cheated in both of their WBC heavyweight title fights
- The former WBC heavyweight champion lost his crown to Fury last February
- Tony Bellew has rubbished Wilder’s claims Fury used egg weights in his gloves
Wilder lost his WBC crown to Fury with a seventh-round stoppage on February 22 in Las Vegas.
Since that defeat, the American has produced many claims as to why he lost the rematch. And on Saturday he was back at it again – this time stating he believed Fury put ‘something the size and shape of an egg-weight’ in his gloves, which left a dent in his head.
Deontay Wilder’s (right) accusations of Tyson Fury (left) cheating during their heavyweight title fights have been slammed by former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew
Wilder took to social media on Saturday to accuse Fury of using egg weights in their rematch
Bellew has rubbished Wilder’s accusations as ‘impossible’ due to the fight-night checks
Fury demolished the Bronze Bomber to take his WBC heavyweight crown in February this year
He also accused Ricky Hatton, in Fury’s corner for their first clash – which was a draw – of moving the ‘Gypsy King’s’ gloves mid-fight to reduce the padding around his fists.
But former cruiserweight champion Bellew, who fought 34 times professionally, has rubbished Wilder’s claims as fighters go through the severest of checks come fight night.
‘Insane, really insane. Whatever he’s been smoking it needs to stop. It’s absolutely insane. You have to understand the checks we go through,’ Bellew told TalkSPORT.
‘Once we arrive at the arena, from the minute we get there we’re followed by a drug tester. This is when you’re at the top of the sport and you’re in world title fights. So you get to the arena and you’re followed everywhere by a drug tester.
‘The minute you start getting ready for the bout, you’re getting your kit on, your clothes on and your hands wrapped. The minute your hands start getting wrapped you’ve got someone from the opposing dressing room in your changing room. He watches everything that goes on. You also have an official that’s with you at all times.
‘Then the gloves go on. At no point that them gloves are on your hands can they come off, can they be taken off, without an official with you and without someone from the other team. It’s impossible what he’s saying.’
Wilder also laid into his former trainer Mark Breland labelling him ‘disloyal’ and in a separate interview made claims that he felt the veteran trainer may have spiked his water.
At the weekend, Wilder took to social media to make his latest remarks about Fury. He also laid into his former trainer Mark Breland, who recently parted ways with, labelling him ‘disloyal’ and in a separate interview made claims that he felt he may have spiked his water.
Wilder alleged that Ricky Hatton ‘pulled down’ Fury’s glove during their first bout in 2018
He claimed that Fury’s gloves were adjusted, causing him to tear his ear in the second fight
‘I saw in the first fight when Ricky Hatton was pulling down your gloves to put your fist in the improper position,’ Wilder said.
‘You tried the same method the second time but this time you scratched flesh out of my ears which caused them to bleed.’
‘It’s impossible for a brand new 10oz glove to bend, to keep a smushed-in form or to have loose space. I highly believe you had something hard in your glove, something the size and the shape of an egg-weight. It’s the reason why the side of my face swelled up in an egg-weight form. And it left a dent in my face as well.
‘But in the midst of it all, you still couldn’t keep this king down. You would have had to kill me. In the end it took a c***-in-a-bucket referee and a disloyal trainer (Mark Breland) to throw the towel in just to stop me.’
Wilder then warned Fury ‘payback is coming’, even though the British fighter’s team recently insisted the rematch clause which entitled his rival to a third fight had expired.
Fury is now scheduled to have a homecoming fight on December 5 but Wilder said: ‘It is time for you to be a man and honour your word, instead of trying to weasel out of our agreement. Scared people run but a scary man will break his contract. You coward a** b****.’
WILDER STATEMENT IN FULL
‘The bible tells us that silence is golden. But my ears can still hear and my eyes can still see.
The bible also tells us to be swift to hear and slow the speed. You see, what you don’t understand, thief, what you did is what my people deal with all the time. Someone cheating them for providing their greatness into the world. But it’s a burden we cut off only to make us stronger.
