1. Software Design & Development

Many job seekers now turn to technical recruiters for help.  They not only help find ideal jobs, but they also help tailor their pitch to be employed faster.  There are varying levels of help: the first is a more tactical, while the tactical level involves more analysis and question asking.  As a talented software developer, you should know how to approach both levels of help.

2. Systems Design & Management

An even more popular position is that of system design.  This is a more specific job in a variety of industries.  Most of the Fortune 500 companies have in-house systems designers who specialize in applying management concepts to IT solutions.  In addition to in-house talents, many corporations are looking to hire candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of emerging technologies and an appetite to keep up to date with them.  The pitch: a total engineer can perform at the same level as an in-house designer; one report may require an in-house analyst, while another may call for a complete consulting engineer.

3. Software Engineering

This is the science of software development.  Software engineers work with software programmers to design, test and customize application software.  However, they are not software programmers in the same sense as programmers.  Instead, a software engineer is a professional in a variety of industries who happens to be a software engineer.  Because the requirements for software development are so specific, every company must inevitably hire an engineer.  You can get an education in software engineering similar to any other technical field: get a degree in computer science or engineering.  You will likely find many employers that are very interested in both of these degrees.

4. Information Systems & Technology

Many companies now rely on technology.  Technology is necessary in order to prevent a recurrence of a problem in the system.  In this regard, there are two types of technology, information technology, which involves programming and application development, and information technology, which involves processing information.  Information technology is often used to keep a company’s computers working as they should.  Many of the larger corporations use technology in order to develop and improve business operations.

5. Quality Assurance Specialist

As a QA Engineer, you will have the responsibility of testing and fixing software bugs. There are many advantages of automation testing for software companies, one of which is saving money on staff hours since the testing is automated.

Want to take your career to the next level?  There are many accredited schools that allow you to earn a non-degree certification in information technology.  You can start your training from a certificate level and work your way up to a bachelor’s degree.  Or, if you’d prefer to go right for an associate’s degree, you could take some time to complete a specialized curriculum and earn this specialized certification.
