Heavy rainfall on Monday led to flooded streets across several South Florida communities, with areas in Broward County from Davie to Pembroke Pines experiencing intense downpours in a short period. The storms prompted authorities to issue flood advisories that remained in effect throughout the afternoon.
The severe weather also caused significant disruptions at major airports. At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, a ground stop was ordered amid the thunderstorms, resulting in 89 flight delays and 29 cancellations.
Miami International Airport reported even greater impacts, with officials confirming 181 delays and 47 cancellations by Monday afternoon, primarily due to the weather. The widespread travel chaos left many passengers stranded.
“We’re crossing our fingers that we’ll actually make it because, if not, we’re gonna be stuck here for the night and we’d have to wait in another line, and it took us two hours to wait to get our flight changed in the first place,” said one traveler at MIA.
